Angers ready to take Augsburg’s Steve Mounie on loan

Kicker reports that FC Augsburg may have found a loan locale for striker Steve Mounie. Angers SCO have expressed interest in taking the 30-year-old on loan for the coming season. To date, Mounie has scored just one goal and registered one assist for the Bundesliga outfit he joined last summer.

Despite a poor first season in the Fuggerstadt, Mounie turned in a promising training camp for Sandro Wagner’s FCA and even earned a start in Augsburg’s opening round cup fixture. Mounie scored his first FCA goal in the team’s 0-2 away win over Hallescher FC.

Wagner nevertheless didn’t choose to start or even play Mounie in the Bundesliga opener against SC Freiburg. The 63-times-capped Benin international remained on the bench throughout as German youngster Mert Kömür spearheaded the attack and Philipp Titez eventually provided relief.

Mounie now retains next-to-no playing prospects behind Kömür, Tietz, and the soon-to-return from suspension Samuel Essende. A quick conclusion of a loan deal seems likely.
